How It Works
Pictory runs an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools from another service. You add the Pictory MCP server to ChatGPT once, as a plugin. After that, ChatGPT can use Pictory’s tools for you in your chats.
Every request runs against your own Pictory account. Videos and projects are saved there, just
as if you had made them in the Pictory app.
What You Can Do
Ask in everyday language. For example, you can:- Check your account. Ask how many AI Credits you have left. On a Pictory 2.0 account, you can also ask about video minutes.
- Create a video. Start from a topic, a script, or a link to an article.
- Turn a recording into a video. On a Pictory 3.0 account, upload a podcast, a talk, or a voice memo. Your recording becomes the voice-over.
- Upload your own images and videos. An upload panel opens in the chat. Pictory uses your files in your scenes.
- Preview before you finish. Review the scenes and ask for changes before the final video is made.
- Find media and music. Search Pictory’s stock library and music library.
- Generate AI images and clips. Pick a model, see the cost in AI Credits, and confirm first.
- Choose a voice. List the narration voices on your account and pick one.
- Use your brand. Choose one of your brand kits for the video.
Pictory 2.0 and Pictory 3.0
Pictory 2.0 and Pictory 3.0 are versions of the Pictory video app. Your account decides the only type of new video you can create through the MCP server:
Before a new video, ChatGPT checks your account with Pictory. It then uses the video type your
account supports. You do not need to choose between video types.
The MCP server rejects Motion Graphics creation requests from Pictory 2.0 accounts.
Moving to Pictory 3.0 is a one-way change. If you use Pictory 2.0 and want Motion Graphics,
contact Pictory support to enable Pictory 3.0 for your account. After your account moves to
Pictory 3.0, you cannot switch back to Pictory 2.0. New videos you create through MCP will
use Motion Graphics only.
Render Credits
Rendering means making the finished video file. On plans that charge render credits, Motion Graphics videos made through MCP cost 200 AI Credits per video minute. This applies to the project’s first successful render. Before making the finished video, ChatGPT shows your available credits and the render cost. It then waits for you to confirm. See credits and rendering for repeat renders and plan exemptions. What You Need
Everything that works in Claude works in ChatGPT. ChatGPT connects to the same Pictory MCP
server, so every Pictory tool is available, including the upload panel. The same video types and
credit rules apply. The Pictory MCP Server and
motion graphics pages use Claude in their examples.
