# New: Create Videos from Audio Recordings

> Upload a podcast episode, a talk, or a voice memo. Claude turns it into a Motion Graphics video, with your own recording as the voice-over. Available for Pictory 3.0 accounts.

> [!TIP]
>
> **Your voice, your video.** Already recorded a podcast, an interview, a lesson, or a voice memo?
> Upload it in the chat. Claude builds an animated video around what you say, and your recording
> plays as the voice-over, exactly as you recorded it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Already using Pictory in Claude?** You need to update your connection to see this feature.
> Disconnect the Pictory connector, remove it, then add it again and sign in. Start a new chat
> after that. Your videos and projects stay in your Pictory account. Follow the
> [update steps](https://docs.pictory.ai/claude-mcp/claude-app.md#get-the-new-features-existing-users).

## What This Does

You give Claude an audio recording. Pictory writes down every word you say, and when you say
it. Claude then plans scenes that follow your words, and Pictory builds a Motion Graphics video
around your recording.

* **Your recording is the voice-over.** It plays exactly as you recorded it. Pictory does not
rewrite your words, change the speed, or cut out pauses.
* **You do not need an AI voice.** Claude does not ask you to pick a narrator.
* **The language is detected for you.** You do not need to say which language you speak.
* **The visuals follow what you say.** Animated text, charts, and graphics can appear as you
  talk about them.
* **You get an editable project.** Open it in Pictory 3.0 and keep editing in the Motion Studio
  editor.

## Who Can Use It

Audio-to-video is available for **Pictory 3.0 accounts**.

If your account uses Pictory 2.0, Claude explains that this feature needs Pictory 3.0. It does
not offer to make a Standard video instead. To use audio-to-video, contact Pictory support to
enable Pictory 3.0 for your account.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Moving to Pictory 3.0 is a one-way change.** After your account moves to Pictory 3.0, you
> cannot switch back to Pictory 2.0. New videos you create through Claude will use Motion
> Graphics only.

You need the upload panel in the chat for this feature. It appears in Claude on the web, in the
Claude desktop app, and in [ChatGPT](https://docs.pictory.ai/chatgpt/use-pictory-in-chatgpt.md). Audio-to-video is not
available in Claude Code.

## What You Can Upload

| | |
| - | - |
| File types | MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, or WebM audio |
| File size | Up to 200 MB |
| Length | From 5 seconds to 50 minutes |
| How many | One recording for each video |

Upload the recording through the panel in the chat. A link to an audio file on the web does not
work for this feature.

## How to Make a Video from Your Recording

**1. Ask Claude**

Say that you want a video made from your recording. For example:

> Turn my podcast episode into a video.

> I have a recording of my talk. Make it into an animated video for LinkedIn.

Claude checks your account first. On a Pictory 3.0 account, the upload panel opens right
away, before any other questions.

**2. Upload your recording**

The panel says: *One MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC or WebM recording, up to 200MB. Your recording will
be the video's voiceover.*

1. Drag your recording onto the panel, or select **Browse** and pick it from your computer.
2. Check the file name. Added the wrong file? Select **Remove**.
3. Select **Upload**.

The upload panel for a recording. Claude explains what happens after the upload.

The panel shows the progress. When the upload finishes, Claude continues by itself. You do
not need to copy or paste anything.

**3. Let Pictory transcribe it**

Pictory transcribes your recording. This means it writes down every word you say, with the
time you say it. A long recording takes longer. Claude keeps you posted while it works.

**4. Answer a few questions**

Claude asks only about the choices you have not already made:

* **Shape:** landscape (16:9), vertical (9:16), or square (1:1).
* **Brand kit:** a Brand Kit 2.0 from Pictory 3.0, or None.
* **Music:** one track throughout, different tracks for different parts, or no music.
* **Transitions:** how one scene moves to the next, or simple cuts.
* **Visuals:** stock media, AI-generated media, both, or none.

Claude does not ask about a narrator, because your recording is the voice-over.

Settle the brand kit and the music now. They are fixed once your project is created, and you
cannot change them through the chat later.

**5. Check the transcription credits**

Before your project is created, Claude tells you about how many AI Credits the transcription
uses. For example: *"Transcribing this recording will use approximately 0.6 AI credits."*

Claude then splits your recording into scenes and creates your project. This does not make
the finished video yet.

**6. Review the preview**

Claude gives you a preview and a link to your project in Pictory 3.0. Ask for any visual
changes, such as colors, text, or layout. Your recording, and where each scene starts and
ends, stay the same.

**7. Confirm and get your video**

Before making the finished video, Claude shows your available credits and the render cost.
It then waits for you to confirm. When the video is ready, you receive watch, share, and
download links.

## How Your Recording Becomes Scenes

Claude splits your recording into scenes at natural pauses, such as the end of a sentence.

* Each scene lasts 5–30 seconds.
* The scenes cover your whole recording, from the first second to the last.
* Pictory never cuts out part of your recording to make it fit.

If your brand kit has an intro or an outro, Pictory adds them to your video, however long your
recording is. The intro plays before your recording, and the outro plays after it.

## What It Costs

| What | Cost |
| - | - |
| Transcribing your recording | A small number of AI Credits. Claude tells you the approximate amount before your project is created. |
| Making the finished video | On plans that charge render credits, **200 AI Credits per video minute** for the project's first successful render. Claude shows the cost and waits for you to confirm. |
| AI-generated images or clips | Their own AI Credits, only if you choose them. Claude shows the cost first. |

Your video is as long as your recording, plus your brand kit's intro and outro, if it has them.
The render cost is based on that full length. For example, a 10-minute recording with no intro
or outro makes a video of about 10 minutes. On plans that charge render credits, rendering it
costs about 2,000 AI Credits. See [credits and rendering](https://docs.pictory.ai/claude-mcp/motion-graphics.md#credits-and-rendering)
for plan exemptions.

The transcription credits are taken once, after your project has been built. If something goes
wrong after that point, those credits are not returned. You can try again with the same
recording in the same chat, and you are not charged for the transcription again. The same
applies if you make another video from that recording in the same chat.

## Good to Know

* **Make another video from the same recording.** Ask in the same chat. You do not need to
  upload the recording again.
* **Your recording is not added to your media library.** Pictory keeps it for your videos, but
it does not appear under **Uploads**.
* **This is not the same as adding background music.** Audio-to-video is for a recording of
someone speaking. To play a music track under your video, ask for background music instead.
* **Use the upload panel, not a link.** A link to an audio file does not work for this feature.
