# Pictory for ChatGPT

> Create videos in ChatGPT with your Pictory account. Add the Pictory MCP server as a plugin, sign in once, and describe the video you want. No API key or API subscription is needed.

Connect Pictory to ChatGPT, sign in with your Pictory account, and describe the video you want.
ChatGPT plans the video with you and creates it in your Pictory account.

**You do not need an API key or an API subscription.** You sign in with your Pictory account.
Your Pictory plan or eligible Free Trial provides the features and usage available to you.

> [!TIP]
>
> **New: Pictory works in ChatGPT.** Add the Pictory MCP server as a plugin in a few minutes.
> Then ask for videos, stock media, music, and account details right from your chats.
> [Connect from ChatGPT](https://docs.pictory.ai/chatgpt/connect-chatgpt.md).

## How It Works

Pictory runs an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI
assistant use tools from another service. You add the Pictory MCP server to ChatGPT once, as a
plugin. After that, ChatGPT can use Pictory's tools for you in your chats.

| Server URL | `https://mcp.pictory.ai/mcp` |
| Added in ChatGPT as | A custom MCP server, created as a plugin on the **Personal** tab |
| Sign-in | Your Pictory account (email and password, or Google). No API key or API subscription. |
| Billing | Usage is charged to the Pictory account or team you sign in with. Your plan sets the available video minutes, voice-over usage, and AI Credits. |

Every request runs against your own Pictory account. Videos and projects are saved there, just
as if you had made them in the Pictory app.

## What You Can Do

Ask in everyday language. For example, you can:

* **Check your account.** Ask how many AI Credits you have left. On a Pictory 2.0 account, you
can also ask about video minutes.
* **Create a video.** Start from a topic, a script, or a link to an article.
* **Turn a recording into a video.** On a Pictory 3.0 account, upload a podcast, a talk, or a
voice memo. Your recording becomes the voice-over.
* **Upload your own images and videos.** An upload panel opens in the chat. Pictory uses your
  files in your scenes.
* **Preview before you finish.** Review the scenes and ask for changes before the final video is made.
* **Find media and music.** Search Pictory's stock library and music library.
* **Generate AI images and clips.** Pick a model, see the cost in AI Credits, and confirm first.
* **Choose a voice.** List the narration voices on your account and pick one.
* **Use your brand.** Choose one of your brand kits for the video.

See [Use Pictory in ChatGPT](https://docs.pictory.ai/chatgpt/use-pictory-in-chatgpt.md) for example requests and what
happens at each step.

## Pictory 2.0 and Pictory 3.0

Pictory 2.0 and Pictory 3.0 are versions of the Pictory video app. Your account decides the
only type of new video you can create through the MCP server:

| Your account | Videos you can create through MCP | What they look like |
| - | - | - |
| Pictory 2.0 | **Standard Pictory videos only**, also called classic videos | Scenes with footage or images, text, narration, and music. |
| Pictory 3.0 | **Motion Graphics videos only**, available by default | Animated text, shapes, charts, and diagrams, with optional footage or images. |

Before a new video, ChatGPT checks your account with Pictory. It then uses the video type your
account supports. You do not need to choose between video types.

The MCP server rejects Motion Graphics creation requests from Pictory 2.0 accounts.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Moving to Pictory 3.0 is a one-way change.** If you use Pictory 2.0 and want Motion Graphics,
> contact Pictory support to enable Pictory 3.0 for your account. After your account moves to
> Pictory 3.0, you cannot switch back to Pictory 2.0. New videos you create through MCP will
> use Motion Graphics only.

## Render Credits

Rendering means making the finished video file.

On plans that charge render credits, Motion Graphics videos made through MCP cost
**200 AI Credits per video minute**. This applies to the project's first successful render.

Before making the finished video, ChatGPT shows your available credits and the render cost.
It then waits for you to confirm. See [credits and rendering](https://docs.pictory.ai/claude-mcp/motion-graphics.md#credits-and-rendering)
for repeat renders and plan exemptions.

## What You Need

| Requirement | Details |
| - | - |
| A Pictory account | You sign in with it when you connect the plugin: [app.pictory.ai](https://app.pictory.ai) |
| Available account usage | An active subscription or eligible Free Trial. Available video minutes, voice-over usage, and AI Credits depend on the account or team you connect. |
| ChatGPT | A ChatGPT account that lets you add custom MCP servers as plugins. In a work or school workspace, your admin may need to allow custom MCP servers. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Everything that works in Claude works in ChatGPT.** ChatGPT connects to the same Pictory MCP
> server, so every Pictory tool is available, including the upload panel. The same video types and
> credit rules apply. The [Pictory MCP Server](https://docs.pictory.ai/claude-mcp/overview.md) and
> [motion graphics](https://docs.pictory.ai/claude-mcp/motion-graphics.md) pages use Claude in their examples.
